Kielder Marathon 2010

The brain child of Steve Cram saw Kielder marathon come to life Oct 17th 2010, 3 days after Steve turned 50.

Launched early that year in February, Steve, RAP, Extra Mile M+E, NWL and Kielder Partnership were overwhelmed by the interest and over 3000 runners entered the ballot to take part. With a restriction of 1500 entries in year 1, sadly some runners had to be declined an entry but were offered a guaranteed place for 2011.

Many were also encouraged to take part in the Run Bike Run team event which took place the day before the marathon. The weather was spectacular and the venue didn't disappoint and lived up to its name as Britain's most beautiful marathon.

Although unable to affect the race at the front Steve was more than pleased to be able to take part in the inaugural Kielder Marathon, finishing in a respectable 3 hours 46, ironically exactly the same as his Mile WR time 3.46! Plans are well under way for the 2011 staging of the event, so keep visiting the marathon website and facebook page for information

COCO

In 1998 former British Army officer Jim Panton and former international athlete Steve Cram joined forces to raise much-needed funds for the children of a small war-torn community in Bosnia.

Running a 52-mile marathon, they and a handful of Army officers succeeded in raising vital funds for the community. After seeing the difference that their support and funds made they made a pledge to continue their efforts for the benefit of many other children throughout the world. It was at this point that COCO, Comrades of Children Overseas, was born.

To this day, COCO continues to work towards brighter futures across the globe with the same drive and determination.
